Dear Friends,
In bold below is a chorus I’ve been singing this week. Below that are a few thoughts.
Jesus my solid ground
When none other can be found
You are my stability
When the ground seems to be shifting under your feet, you don’t sprint.
You don’t wake up and swing your legs over the side of the bed as in seasons past, confidently and unthinkingly striding into your day.
No, unsteady ground changes your approach to just about everything.
Maybe you crouch down a bit, arms out to the sides to steady your weight. And you pay great attention to every single step.
Left. Right. Left. Right. You drop each foot carefully, checking out the ground beneath each step.
Christ. Christ. Christ. Christ.
Yes, every step is intentional, each one purposed to land securely in Christ.
He is the unchanging One. Faithful to the end. He is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. No shadow of turning or changing. When all the world is shifting, He is the solid ground.
Proverbs 17:3 says:
“The refining pot is for silver
and the furnace for gold,
But the Lord tests the hearts.”
The tensions, the heartbreak and uncertainty—they feel like a fire because they are a fire. At the end of our lives, I imagine we will look back at difficult seasons and see—He was testing the hearts of every last one of us.
What are you walking through? Yes, He is at the helm even still. The fire is burning away the dust, dross, all the “extras” we absentmindedly trust with our weight every single day.
He’s bringing our every footstep back to this simple aim: let Christ be all in all.
Left. Right. Left. Right.
Christ. Christ. Christ. Christ.
–Anna
P.S. Those of you who have written to me about family and friends serving in the IDF right now: I am praying for you. That Christ would be your solid ground even now.
